Château l’Évangile is one of the oldest properties in Pomerol with a history stretching back as far as 1741. Its rise to prominence was in large part due to the efforts of the Ducasse family, who owned the estate up until 1999 when it was acquired by the owners of Château Lafite-Rothschild. This is the 2000 vintage of its Grand Vin, a blend of 91% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc. The nose is beautifully fragrant, with aromas of incense and red berries, whilst the palate reveals a medium-bodied wine, featuring sweet red fruits, pomegranate ad truffles.

Vinous
Saturated ruby. Superripe aromas of black and red fruits and dark chocolate; almost but not quite pruney. Then pliant, sweet and lush, with explosive black raspberry fruit and lots of early personality. This is downright hedonistic and deceptively soft. Finishes very long and ripe, with extremely fine tannins.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2001
