1996 is considered not only the best champagne vintage of the decade, but one of the greatest champagne vintages of the last century. The wines resulting from its harvest had in general a very high level of acidity, meaning freshness, but at the same time they were very well-balanced with excellent profile of flavours and aromas. Krug 1996 is also the last vintage blended by three generations of the Krug family working together. Paul II, Henry and Remi, and Olivier.

Sadly, the 1996 Vintage is a bad bottle, and I choose not to serve it.Antonio Galloni1st November 2019

Elegant Luxury

A Champagne house that needs no introduction. Founded by Johann Krug in Reims in 1843, this celebrated Maison specialises in prestige cuvées, including the multi-vintage flagship Grande Cuvée as well as the glorious Krug Clos d'Ambonnay, made exclusively from Pinot Noir. Another highlight is the highly coveted Clos du Mesnil - a rare Blanc de Blancs produced only in exceptional years from a single, tiny 1.84ha plot of Chardonnay grapes in the heart of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Krug has been owned by LVMH since 1999.

While Krug's excellent Grande Cuvée and Rosé have historically been released as multi-vintage blends with no indication of year, the team have now started including edition numbers so consumers can easily discover the age and provenance of the base wines used in the blend.
