The 169ème Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée is an expertly crafted recipe of 146 wines from 11 different years. The youngest is from the year 2013 and the oldest dates back to 2000. The final blend is 43% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay and 22% Pinot Meunier. The nose includes aromas of flowers, citrus fruits, marzipan and gingerbread. On the palate, hazelnuts, almonds, nougat, jellied fruits, brioche and a touch of honey. Outstanding from start to finish.

Krug"s NV Grande Cuvée 169ème Édition is brisk and finely cut, with terrific energy driving the citrus, floral and light tropical notes. Even with all of its energy, the 169 balances the vibrancy of the late-ripening 2013 vintage it is built on, with the depth that the reserve wines added to the blend. The 169 drinks well now but clearly has the potential to age. The 169 is a blend of 146 separate wines back to 2000. Krug ID. 120003. (Originally published in May 2021) - Antonio Galloni

Elegant Luxury

A Champagne house that needs no introduction. Founded by Johann Krug in Reims in 1843, this celebrated Maison specialises in prestige cuvées, including the multi-vintage flagship Grande Cuvée as well as the glorious Krug Clos d'Ambonnay, made exclusively from Pinot Noir. Another highlight is the highly coveted Clos du Mesnil - a rare Blanc de Blancs produced only in exceptional years from a single, tiny 1.84ha plot of Chardonnay grapes in the heart of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Krug has been owned by LVMH since 1999.

While Krug's excellent Grande Cuvée and Rosé have historically been released as multi-vintage blends with no indication of year, the team have now started including edition numbers so consumers can easily discover the age and provenance of the base wines used in the blend.
