Krug Collection 1981 is a prestige-cuvée Champagne from a legendary vintage, presented here in magnum format. The Collection series represents late-disgorged bottlings that have spent decades on lees in Krug’s cellars, achieving a state of superlative complexity. 1981 was a small, high-quality harvest with exceptionally high acidity and concentration. Now fully mature, the wine offers an array of tertiary notes including roasted coffee, dried figs, truffle and toasted brioche. The magnum format has preserved a remarkable structural tension and a fine, persistent mousse. Its palate is expansive and vinous, reflecting the house style of small oak barrel fermentation and meticulous blending.

The 1981 Collection (Magnum) has begun to slowly enter a plateau of maturity marked by slightly oxidative, tertiary notes that give the wine its burnished, resonant personality. Open-knit and creamy on the palate, the 1981 is an ideal wine for current drinking, as it is not likely to improve much from here. Stone fruit, vanilla, hazelnut, truffle, orange peel brioche and dried flowers are some of the many notes that grace the exquisite finish. This is a tremendous showing. Elegant Luxury

A Champagne house that needs no introduction. Founded by Johann Krug in Reims in 1843, this celebrated Maison specialises in prestige cuvées, including the multi-vintage flagship Grande Cuvée as well as the glorious Krug Clos d'Ambonnay, made exclusively from Pinot Noir. Another highlight is the highly coveted Clos du Mesnil - a rare Blanc de Blancs produced only in exceptional years from a single, tiny 1.84ha plot of Chardonnay grapes in the heart of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Krug has been owned by LVMH since 1999.

While Krug's excellent Grande Cuvée and Rosé have historically been released as multi-vintage blends with no indication of year, the team have now started including edition numbers so consumers can easily discover the age and provenance of the base wines used in the blend.
