Kistler McCrea Vineyard Chardonnay 2003 is a white wine from Sonoma Mountain, produced from low-yielding vines rooted in volcanic tuff and basalt. The warm vintage delivered concentrated fruit balanced by the site’s elevation and cooling influence. Aromas of baked apple, lemon oil and almond are layered with hints of smoke, flint and subtle lees spice. The palate is full and textural, its richness carried by a firm mineral backbone and lively acidity. Oak is integrated and restrained, supporting a finish that is long, savoury and finely structured, capturing both ripeness and the vineyard’s inherent tension.

Medium yellow. Fresh nose dominated by lemon and lime. Smooth and quite dry in the mouth, with a strong flavor of dusty stone to go with its citric character. Quite Chablis-like. Impressively structured and long for this bottling, and likely to develop positively in bottle for at least five to seven years.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2006
