The Keermont Syrah 2018 presents an engaging profile characterized by dark berry fruits, particularly blackcurrants and ripe plums, harmonized with hints of pepper and smoke. There’s a subtle earthiness alongside savoury
notes that unfold with each sip, reflecting the wine`s terroir from the Stellenbosch region. This vintage demonstrates a medium to full body with a structured tannin profile, providing a solid foundation for aging.
Aged in a combination of French oak barrels, the wine showcases a balanced acidity that enhances its long finish. Keermont Vineyards, established in 2003, focuses on producing limited quantities of premium wines, with their Syrah standing out for its blend of traditional and modern winemaking techniques. The vineyards are planted at altitudes that promote freshness, while also benefiting from the diverse local climate, adding complexity to the wine.

The 2018 Syrah spent three to four weeks fermenting and macerating on the skins in small open-top tanks with one or two gentle ‘punch-downs’ performed daily. This wine spent 20 months maturing in seasoned 225L and 500L French oak barrels before being bottled by hand without filtration. It has a slightly "compact" bouquet with bramble red berry fruit, white pepper and subtle bay leaf aromas gently unfolding with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, with a liberal sprinkling of black pepper on the entry. It’s quite "cool" in style, very harmonious with a finish you could easily mistake for a fine Northern Rhône. Excellent linearity here, superb.
