A key area for fine wine production in South Africa, the district of Stellenbosch stretches from near the coast at Somerset West into the mountains surrounding Stellenbosch town. With a reputation for top-class Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (as single variety wines and in Bordeaux style blends), in addition to Syrah and Cape blends for red wines and Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay for whites.
