Joseph Phelps Insignia 1995 in magnum format is a superb Bordeaux-style blend from Napa Valley, reflecting the estate’s dedication to quality. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec, this vintage expresses the richness of its terroir. Aromas of dark fruits, earth, and subtle spice lead into a structured palate with refined tannins and well-integrated oak. Founded in 1973, Joseph Phelps Vineyards helped define modern Napa winemaking, with Insignia standing as one of the region’s first proprietary blends. The magnum format enhances its ageing potential, allowing the 1995 vintage to evolve beautifully while maintaining its depth and balance.

Deep ruby-red. Exhilarating, vibrant aromas of cassis, minerals, cocoa powder and brown spices. Juicy, very intensely flavored and sharply delineated; offers lovely restrained sweetness and great finesse. Complex and light on its feet. Finishes bright and fine, with firm tannins and strong dark berry, tobacco and woodsmoke flavors. Remarkably subtle oak. Even better than it showed last winter.Stephen Tanzer1st November 1998

Innovation and Quality in Napa

Founded in 1973, Joseph Phelps Vineyards is family-owned winery celebrated for its commitment to crafting world-class, estate grown wines from Napa Valley and the Sonoma Coast. Joe Phelps was a building contractor from Colorado who began investing in Napa Valley vineyards in the early 1970s, producing the first vintage of his now-famous "Insignia" in 1974 - one of the first super premium Bordeaux blends from Napa.

The current winemaker is Ashley Hepworth, who initially joined Joseph Phelps in 1999 as an intern. Alongside Insignia, Ashley and the team also make a number of varietal wines with the Freestone Vineyards Chardonnay being a notable high point.
