The Jacquesson Avize Champ Cain 2004 is a highly sought-after single-vineyard Champagne, made entirely from 100% Chardonnay grapes. This cuvée comes from a 1.3-hectare plot in the Grand Cru village of Avize, located in the Côte des Blancs. The vines in this vineyard were planted in 1962 on chalk and limestone soils. The 2004 vintage was a strong one for Champagne, and Jacquesson`s meticulous winemaking, including fermentation in oak tuns and a long aging period on lees (approximately 8 years for the 2004 release), contributes to its complexity. It is bottled as an Extra Brut with a very low dosage, emphasising the purity of the fruit and terroir, and is known for its balance of delicacy, purity, finesse, and a distinct minerality.

The 2004 Avize-Champ Gain comes across as intense and vertical in style, with plenty of mineral and savory notes pushed forward. With time in the glass, the fruit emerges, but only with great reluctance. Like all the 2004s, the Avize-Champ Gain has gone into a shell from which it will eventually emerge, but its going to take a few years.Antonio Galloni1st July 2015
