Henri Giraud Argonne 2004 is a mature vintage Champange that reflects the meticulous craftsmanship of the Giraud family, noted for their emphasis on using oak barrels for fermentation. This vintage comprises a blend of predominantly Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, offering a structured profile. The palate reveals nuances of ripe apple and delicate citrus, balanced by a mineral core and a subtle oak influence. The wine’s finish is long and precise, emphasising its terroir. Henri Giraud, established in the early 20th century, remains one of the leading names in terroir-focused Champagne production.
96 The Wine Independent
Sporting a medium golden color, the 2004 Henri Giraud Argonne bursts with bold notions of brioche, honeycomb, praline, and apple pie, followed by wafts of wood smoke and allspice. The palate is full-flavors and rich with sensuously played bubbles and a refreshing backbone, finishing long and nutty.Lisa Perrotti-Brown14th March 2024

The 2004 Brut Argonne (Collection) is a gorgeous wine with all of the signatures that make these Champagnes so distinctive. Orange marmalade, apricot jam, honey, mint, wild flowers and sweet oak are all laced together in a sumptuous, super-expressive Champagne that hits all the right notes. Rich, vinous and decadent, the 2004 will drink well for another decade or so. This is the best showing yet for the 2004. Disgorged: March 17, 2017. Antonio Galloni1st July 2019

A Boutique Grand Marque

The Giraud-Hémart family have cultivated grapes in the Champagne region since 1625. Based in Äy, the family only started to produce wine for themselves in 1990. The current owner of the house is 12th-generation Claude Giraud. His son, Emmanuelle Giraud-Patour manages the company while his son-in-law, Sébastien Le Golvet, is the chef de cave.

Henri Giraud’s top cuvée, Fût de Chêne, is a Pinot Noir-dominant blend with a smaller proportion of Chardonnay, using the ‘Petit Pinot’ clone of Pinot Noir which has been grown solely in Aÿ since 1804. Meanwhile the new Esprit Nature cuvée is a Pinot Noir-dominant blend with Chardonnay and 50% reserve wine, with maturation taking place in small casks and ovoid vats. Production at Henri Giraud is limited to just 250,000 bottles a year – a remarkably small number in comparison with the Grandes Marques, which dictates that demand is always high.
