Château Haut-Bergey 1998 is a Pessac-Léognan blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. The 1998 vintage in Graves and the Right Bank is recognised for its successful Merlot harvest which reached full maturity before the heavy rains of early October that challenged the later-ripening Cabernet. This wine was aged for 16 months in 100% new French oak following a fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The resulting profile reflects the characteristic gravel terroir of the Léognan plateau with a palate of smoked plums, graphite and dried herbs supported by a firm tannic structure.

Elegant, spicy, tobacco, cranberry, and red cherry characteristics emerge from this finesse-styled, sweet, flavorful, medium-bodied wine. Already delicious as well as complex, it is best consumed over the next decade.
