Château Haut-Bailly 1996 is a red wine from the Pessac-Léognan appellation, showcasing the estate`s meticulous approach to winemaking. This vintage reflects the characteristics of a year esteemed for its Cabernet Sauvignon, resulting in a blend marked by firm tannins and high acidity. The wine reveals notes of blackcurrant, earth and subtle cedar, typical of Haut-Bailly`s gravelly terroir. The estate, a Cru Classé de Graves, has been under the stewardship of the Sanders family, noted for their commitment to excellence and authenticity in Bordeaux since the 19th century.

Vinous
Deeper red-ruby. Quite withdrawn on the nose today; hints at roasted plum and Cuban cigar tobacco. Intensely flavored but firm and tight; sound acids and a solid tannic spine make this difficult to taste today. Finishes with a minty nuance. In a period of somnolence, says Veronique Sanders. May ultimately merit a 90-point rating.Stephen Tanzer1st May 1999
