The Hanyu Distillery, located in Saitama Prefecture north of Tokyo, was owned by Toa-Shuzo and ceased production in 2000. Its remaining stock was entrusted to Ichiro Akuto, the founder`s grandson, who established Venture Whisky to preserve and showcase Hanyu`s legacy. These rare casks are occasionally found on the market today under the “Ichiro’s Malt” label.

Hanyu whiskies have become highly coveted at auctions, sharing a prestigious reputation alongside Karuizawa as some of the most sought-after Japanese whiskies.

This particular whisky was distilled in 2000 and bottled in 2012 after maturing in Chibidaru casks. These unique casks, similar to quarter casks, are crafted with shortened staves and repurposed for maturation. This release was created exclusively for Whisky Live Tokyo 2012.
