Joseph Drouhin Griotte-Chambertin 2008 is a medium- to full-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Grand Cru climat of Griotte-Chambertin in the Côte de Nuits. Founded in Beaune in 1880, Domaine Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy`s leading wine producers, with vineyard holdings in Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise, as well as in Oregon, USA. Today, the estate is led by the 4th generation of the family and produces wines from nearly 90 different appellations. This is the domaine’s 2008 Griotte-Chambertin – one of the more sought-after wines within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation owing to its fresher, more delicate style."Relatively heavy reduction almost completely blocks the nose though the rich and full-bodied flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration and a seductive mouth feel on the long, delicious and impressively complex finish. My score offers the benefit of the doubt that the reduction is simply a post-bottling phenomenon that will clear up in time. However, should you be curious enough to sample a bottle young, I would strongly advise decanting it first." Burghound, 2010

Medium red. Musky, slightly candied aromas of red berry syrup, iron and smoke. Silky, suave, lush and primary but not a particularly sweet style. A round and pliant wine with a firm spicy, herbal back end. I like the use of stems here.
