Château Giscours 2009 is a striking expression from this esteemed Third Growth estate in Margaux. Owned by the Albada Jelgersma family since 1995, Giscours has a reputation for carefully selected fruit from its vineyards. This vintage comprises 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. On the palate, it reveals flavours of blackcurrant, spice, dried fruit, alongside nuances of earthiness and leather. The wine reflects the complexity of the Margaux terroir and illustrates the potential of the estate’s rich history and evolving winemaking practices. Presented in magnum format.

The 2009 Giscours has almost exactly the same nose as the last bottles, with hints of curry leaf infusing the black fruit. It still leans a little towards Saint-Julien in style, maybe with some Brettanomyces. Quite classic in style, the palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and graphite-infused black fruit. It's taut and fresh with a persistent finish. Excellent. Neal Martin2nd April 2025

The rich texture is clear visually with its inky plum colour, and this has plenty of ripe damson and black cherry fruit on the attack. Bitter chocolate and smoked turmeric adds opulence, although the tannins remain tight and this is a little abrupt on the finish. Less suave than many 2009s right now, although clear underlying power. First year with Denis Dubourdieu as consultant, 50% new oak for ageing. Harvest September 22 to October 13.Jane Anson10th October 2024

The 2009 Giscours has a medium to deep garnet color and delivers evolved prunes, baked blackberries and fruitcake scents with an earthy, dried herbs and potpourri undercurrent plus a waft of sweaty leather. The medium to full-bodied palate has a rugged frame of chewy tannins and a firm grip on the somewhat rustic finish. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown
