Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2009 is a mature village Burgundy Pinot Noir from the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation of the Côte de Nuits. The domaine`s Vieilles Vignes cuvée is a bold, structured Pinot Noir which many Burgundy aficionados agree is of 1er Cru quality. "This plush red is infused with plum, blackberry, smoke and spice flavours, well-constituted with acidity and tannins. This tightens up on the finish, as plum and spice notes return on the tobacco-tinged aftertaste." Wine Spectator

Good deep, fresh red. Lively aromas of black cherry, licorice and menthol. Silky-sweet on the palate, with solid minerality enlivening the black raspberry and licorice flavors. Densely packed wine with lovely emerging perfume of lavender, spices and white pepper. Finishes with ripe tannins. The crop level was a very-low-for-the-vintage 35 hectoliters per hectare due to the high percentage of tiny berries, noted Mortet. A superb showing today for this village offering.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2012
