Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St Jacques 2004 is a medium- to full-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Premier Cru climat of Lavaux St Jacques in the Gevrey-Chambertin commune of the Côte de Nuits. Situated in Gevrey-Chambertin, Denis Mortet is a family-owned estate run by Laurence and her two children, Clémence and Arnaud. The domaine was originally founded in 1956 by Charles Mortet with just a single hectare of vines to his name. This Gevrey Chambertin cuvée comes from their parcel in Lavaux-Saint-Jacques, a premier cru located just west of the village. "There is a hint of reduction that detracts mildly from the beguiling mix of red raspberry and hints of black cherry, violets and a touch of spice nose that introduces fresh, pure and textured medium full flavours underpinned by a seriously complex and persistent finish. Like the Champeaux, this does a slow build from the mid-palate to a long finish that is almost aggressively mineral in character. Good stuff here." Burghound, 2007

Vinous
Bright, deep red-ruby. Primal crushed raspberry and game on the nose, with musky suggestions of coffee and mocha. Densely packed and distinctly wild in the mouth, with a juicy quality to the black fruit flavors. This is a bit reduced today but the tannic finish boasts very strong and persistent fruit and mineral flavors.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2007
