The wines of Domaine Leroy are some of the most sought-after in the world, both by collectors and consumers. The estate is led by one of the most influential women in the wine industry, Lalou Bize-Leroy, who also manages Maison Leroy and Domaine d`Auvenay. Comprised of just over 21 hectares, it boasts impressive holdings across nine Grand Crus and eight Premier Crus, all farmed biodynamically. This release is the Domaine’s village-level Gevrey-Chambertin, a blend from different estate-owned parcels. The 2004 vintage is a beautifully perfumed expression, delivering notes of plums, stewed red fruits, sandalwood, nutmeg, mushrooms and some floral accents.
90 Vinous
(a blend of the Gevreys) Medium red with a palish rim. Wild, meaty nose is already quite expressive. Sweet and silky but less fat than the Chambolle; this has firm minerality and a smoked meat element but there's also a faint vegetility lurking. Ultimately less primary than the Chambolle and a bit rustic in character. But the smoky finish shows good thrust.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2007

Domaine Leroy

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
