The 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin Village certainly has an attractive nose with black cherries, touches of cassis, less leafiness compared to other 2008 Côte de Nuits. The palate is medium-bodied with a medicinal entry, a touch of creme de menthe, well balanced with ample dark cherry fruit laced with pain d’epices on the finish. This is maturing well for a Village Cru. Neal Martin24th August 2022

The 2008 Gevrey-Chambertin is an utterly impeccable, refined wine graced with exquisite layers of intensely perfumed dark red fruit. This sensual, gorgeous Gevrey captures the essence of the vintage in its classy, pedigreed personality. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028.

Count me among the Burgundy fans who are thrilled Jean-Marie Fourrier chose not to pursue the career as a commercial airline pilot for which he studied. Fourrier began picking on September 17. The fruit was destemmed. Cuvaison lasted around 14 days but Fourrier commented that he had an unusually high (50%) amount of shot berries, which had the effect of extending the fermentations for another week or so. The malos started and ended early, hence Fourrier decided to bottle early as well. Per his usual practice, Fourrier left the wines on the lees with no racking until the wines were prepared for bottling. On average the wines saw 20% new oak. I tasted all of the 2009s from bottle.

Jean-Marie Fourrier has been at the helm of his family domaine since the mid 1990s and has steadily risen to become one of Gevrey-Chambertin's most important vignerons. Having served an apprentice under the famous Henri Jayer before a brief stint at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon, Jean-Marie returned to France with a clear vision to raise to improve the quality of his wines to be the equal of any in the Côte de Nuits.

Grapes are destemmed after picking and fermentation is kept on the cooler side. A 36 - 48 hour maceration precedes the fermentation, punching down is manual and malolactic fermentation is restricted through temperature control. These are superbly elegant wines which push their ethereal fruit character to the fore.
