Gevrey-Chambertin Champeaux Domaine Fourrier 2012 is a focused expression of Pinot Noir from the prestigious Champeaux vineyard. This wine emerges from vines planted in 1919, situated in a 0.21-hectare parcel on the northern slope of the Les Champeaux 1er Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin. The fertile limestone-clay soils contribute to its robust character. Expect a complex palate with notes of red and dark cherries, underpinned by mineral nuances.

(from vines planted in 1919): Sappy aromas of black raspberry, licorice and espresso. Sweet, dense and high-toned, with urgent intensity to the crushed dark berry and saline mineral flavors. Wonderfully saline and long on the aftertaste, supported by a firm spine of minerals and acidity. Should be a beauty.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2014

Jean-Marie Fourrier has been at the helm of his family domaine since the mid 1990s and has steadily risen to become one of Gevrey-Chambertin's most important vignerons. Having served an apprentice under the famous Henri Jayer before a brief stint at Domaine Drouhin in Oregon, Jean-Marie returned to France with a clear vision to raise to improve the quality of his wines to be the equal of any in the Côte de Nuits.

Grapes are destemmed after picking and fermentation is kept on the cooler side. A 36 - 48 hour maceration precedes the fermentation, punching down is manual and malolactic fermentation is restricted through temperature control. These are superbly elegant wines which push their ethereal fruit character to the fore.
