Gazin 2008 presents a deep garnet hue, hinting at its age and structured nature. The nose reveals earthy undertones, coupled with red fruit notes like cherry and raspberry. There are subtle hints of tobacco and cedar, indicative of its time spent in oak barrels. The palate is marked by firm tannins and a medium-bodied texture, leading to a balanced finish.

Château Gazin, located in the Pomerol region of Bordeaux, is recognized for its significant terroir. The 2008 vintage showcases a blend that primarily features Merlot, complemented by small quantities of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. With careful vinification practices and an emphasis on showcasing the vineyard`s unique characteristics, this wine reflects the complexity and finesse typical of top-tier Pomerol estates.

- The 2008 Gazin has a perfumed bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, black truffle and iris, broody at first but responding immediately to aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, initially a little disjointed and I would have liked more depth and concentration to come through on the linear, straight-laced finish. It is a fine Gazin albeit one superseded by recent vintages. (Tasted at BI Wine & Spirit’s annual 10-Year On tasting.)
