Etna Rosso Guardiola Alta Mora 2020 is crafted from single-crop Nerello Mascalese, sourced from two hectares of centennial vines located in the Guardiola contrada at elevations of 800 to 1000 metres. This particular terroir contributes to a prolonged ripening process, allowing the grapes to develop pronounced tannins and nuanced aromas. The wine is a product of Sicilian tradition, produced by the Alta Mora winery, which is committed to reflecting the distinct characteristics of Mount Etna`s volcanic soils in its offerings.

Alta Mora`s top-shelf red is the 2020 Etna Rosso Guardiola. This limited release of 3,000 bottles is made with fruit from exceptionally old vines on their own roots in bush-trained vines placed on steep stone terraces at 900 meters in elevation. Guardiola is one of the best-performing growing sites on the volcano, and it always shows an especially polished mineral character. The wine sees 20 days of skin contact during fermentation and ages in large oak casks. This wine has complexity and depth, but ultimately it adheres to the accessible and mid-weight identity of the vintage. - Monica Larner

The 2020 Etna Rosso Guardiola is dusty and floral, with a mix of dried black cherries, clove and sage forming its bouquet. This is a pure and juicy style with lifted red and blue fruits accentuated by hints of sweet spice. A coating of fine tannins lingers as the 2020 tapers off with medium length and remarkably fresh. While I don't perceive the power I typically associate with Guardiola here, I'd be lying if I said that this wasn't a truly enjoyable interpretation of the vineyard.
