Nerello Mascalese

A Sicilian Native

Nerello Mascalese is a red grape variety that is native to Sicily, Italy. It is believed to have originated in the area around Mount Etna, one of the most active volcanoes in Europe. The grape is known for producing high-quality, complex wines that are deeply rooted in the volcanic soils and unique microclimate of the region. Historically, Nerello Mascalese was used mainly as a blending grape, along with other varieties such as Nerello Cappuccio and Frappato. However, in recent years, winemakers have started to focus more on producing single-varietal wines, to widespread acclaim from wine drinkers and critics alike.
