Etna Rosso Feudo di Mezzo Terre Nere 2009 is a red wine from the Castiglione di Sicilia township on Mount Etna. The 1.5-hectare vineyard consists of 50 to 80-year-old gobelet-trained vines growing in deep volcanic ash at 650 metres above sea level. This specific terroir produces a wine that is often the most accessible of the estate`s crus, showing a plush and silky texture. It displays flavours of dark cherry, sassafras root and grilled herbs, underpinned by grippy tannins and a smoky undertone. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak, resulting in a complex profile that balances fruit forwardness with a distinct volcanic sapidity.

The 2009 Etna Rosso is pretty if somewhat fragile wine laced with dried herbs, crushed flowers, tobacco and sweet red berries. The aromas and flavors are already a touch forward, suggesting the Rosso is best enjoyed sooner rather than later.
