Clos L’Eglise is one of the oldest châteaux in Pomerol dating all the way back to the 18th century. The property was acquired by the Garcin-Cathiard family in 1997 and is currently overseen by Hélène Garcin and Patrice Levêque. This release is their second wine from the 2009 vintage, an excellent year for Bordeaux, with hot dry weather, combined with fresh nights that encouraged good aromatics.

The 2009 L’Esprit de l’Église offers rose petal tinged red fruit on the nose that feels a little flat compared to some of its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with candied red fruit, sweet and figgy with a simple but appealing finish. This should be consumed now as it will not get any better. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting. Neal Martin1st March 2019
