Ermitage L`Ermite Chapoutier 2009 is a single-vineyard Syrah from the Northern Rhône Valley. This historic cuvée originates from the esteemed L`Ermite vineyard, notable for its granitic soils and southern exposure, contributing to the concentrated terroir expression. Michel Chapoutier, known for his biodynamic practices, has established a reputation for enhancing varietal character while respecting the vineyard`s heritage. The 2009 vintage displays pronounced notes of dark fruits, liquorice and subtle earthiness, with a solid structure indicating a long ageing potential.
94 Vinous
Bright purple. Explosive aromas of candied red fruits, potpourri and incense, with a medicinal nuance adding complexity. Stains the palate with intense raspberry and bitter cherry flavors lifted by smoky mineraity. Becomes spicier and deeper with air and finishes with superb clarity and lingering florality. By all means allow this to rest for at least another five years.Josh Raynolds1st March 2012

Passion and Drive

One of the oldest producers in the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier was established in 1808. The arrival of a young Michel Chapoutier, who took over management of the family domaine in 1990, saw huge changes and a renewed drive for excellence, focussing especially on the diverse terroir of the Rhône. Michel has embraced biodynamic practices in recent years and attributes much of the increase in quality to this approach. The wines are generous and fruit-forward at the entry level, moving towards the sublime as we move up the quality ladder.

Two of the greatest wines in the portfolio are 'De L'Orée', an Hermitage Blanc made from 100% Marsanne and 'Le Pavillon', a full-bodied, expressive Hermitage rouge that effortlessly rubs shoulders with the world's greatest Syrah.
