Ermitage Blanc Le Méal Chapoutier 2009 is a white wine from granite and alluvial terraces on the southern slopes of Hermitage hill. The vintage brought full phenolic ripeness, resulting in dense fruit balanced by natural mineral tension. Aromas of honeyed pear, almond and acacia are layered with subtle smoke and spice from oak ageing. The palate is broad and textural, showing waxy richness and saline definition. Acidity is moderate yet persistent, giving focus to the wine’s weight and depth.

From a warm site and a hot vintage, the 2009 Ermitage le Meal Blanc was harvested on the August 28, and aged in 100% new French oak. Flirting with perfection and a full-bore, exotic, almost over-the-top expression of Marsanne, it has less minerality than the 2010, yet more of everything else with boatloads of caramelized fruits, buttered citrus, white flowers, honey and crushed rocks all soaring from the glass. Rich, layered, exuberant, unctuous and exotic, with stunning freshness despite it`s thickness and weight, drink this incredible white anytime over the coming 30-40 years. - Jeb Dunnuck

Vivid gold. Tropical fruits, honeysuckle and ginger on the highly fragrant nose. Lush and round in the mouth, offering honey-accented pineapple and guava flavors and a late kick of zesty spices. Shows an impressive blend of richness and vivacity and finishes with remarkable focus and lingering spiciness. Josh Raynolds1st March 2012

Passion and Drive

One of the oldest producers in the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier was established in 1808. The arrival of a young Michel Chapoutier, who took over management of the family domaine in 1990, saw huge changes and a renewed drive for excellence, focussing especially on the diverse terroir of the Rhône. Michel has embraced biodynamic practices in recent years and attributes much of the increase in quality to this approach. The wines are generous and fruit-forward at the entry level, moving towards the sublime as we move up the quality ladder.

Two of the greatest wines in the portfolio are 'De L'Orée', an Hermitage Blanc made from 100% Marsanne and 'Le Pavillon', a full-bodied, expressive Hermitage rouge that effortlessly rubs shoulders with the world's greatest Syrah.
