Introducing the Eric Rodez Cuvee des Grands Vintages Edition 35 NV, a meticulous blend of 30% Chardonnay and 70% Pinot Noir. This Champagne is crafted from meticulously sourced grapes from several vintages, including 2018 (21%), 2017 (28%) and 2016 (22%), supplemented with 29% réserve wines. Aged in 100% oak barrels, this cuvée undergoes a unique partial malolactic fermentation, contributing to its layered complexity. Eric Rodez has been committed to organic and biodynamic practices since 1984, firmly establishing him as a forerunner in sustainable viticulture within Champagne. This release marks a new chapter in displaying his `Vins d’Auteur` range, enhancing traceability through distinctive edition numbers.
93 Vinous
(70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, all barrel-fermented; 4 g/l dosage; made from fruit grown in Ambonnay and aged on its lees for eight years before disgorgement; L09-13): Bright yellow-gold. An intriguingly perfumed nose evokes poached pear, orange zest, sweet butter and honey, along with a smoky quality and a chalky mineral overtone. Chewy, very deep citrus and orchard fruit flavors are complicated by suggestions of toasted brioche, white truffle and candied fig. Finishes very long and smoky, with resonating floral and mineral qualities. I'd serve this complex Champagne, which comprises wines from 15 different vintages dating back to 1995, with an indulgent, buttery poultry or shellfish dish.Josh Raynolds1st January 2015

Disgorged in April 2020 with three grams per liter dosage, the latest rendition of the NV Brut Cuvée des Grand Vintages wafts from the glass with inviting aromas of pear, toasted almonds, dried white flowers, honeycomb, peach and nougat. Full-bodied, elegantly fleshy and enveloping, with ripe but racy acids, a pillowy mousse and a nicely layered core, it`s already quite expressive despite its recent disgorgement, but I suspect it will show even more depth and dimension with another year or two on cork. - William Kelley

Blend of 2000 and 2002 etc. Complex, no malolactic fermentation, all oak, very tamped down but explosive on the finish. (JR)

Bold, Expressive Champagnes

Based in the renowned Grand Cru village of Ambonnay in the Montagne de Reims, Eric Rodez is a leading producer of fine Champagnes. With a Champagne-making history stretching back many generations, the domaine is now run by Eric, his wife Martine and his son, Mickaël (the ninth generation of the winemaking family).

Eric Rodez owns 9ha of Pinot Noir vines and 7ha of Chardonnay along the south and southeast-facing slopes of Ambonnay. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically while, in the cellar, about 70% of Rodez Champagne is fermented and aged in oak.

The character of Rodez Champagnes is heavily defined by the judicious blending of reserve wines with the new-vintage wine, with Eric using up to 10 different vintages in his final cuvées – his experience in the cellar at Champagne Krug surely a factor there. Whatever the particular cuvée, Rodez Champagnes are consistently elegant, vinous yet deliciously complex.
