Egon Müller Scharzhof Riesling QbA 2023 is a Riesling white wine from the renowned Mosel estate of Egon Müller. This entry-level cuvée is sourced from the estate`s Saar vineyards and provides an essential introduction to their world-class style. The 2023 growing season resulted in a wine with a crystalline acidity and a delicate profile of green apples and slate-driven minerality. Although categorised as a Qualitätswein, it possesses a level of refinement and tension that rivals many superior designations. The finish is bright and effortlessly refreshing, making it an ideal candidate for early enjoyment or short-term cellaring.

The 2023 Riesling Scharzhof, harvested from various parcels across Saarburger Rausch, Wiltinger Volz and Braune Kupp, alongside marginal parcels of Scharzhofberg and Oberemmeler Rosenberg, was fermented spontaneously, mostly in stainless steel with about 20% in Fuder. Juicy, ripe pear on the nose is suffused with lemon and yeast. The immense juiciness is evident on the palate, with light apple-like mouthwatering sweetness and a constant verve of lemon zest. This wine is already open and brings joyous energy with a zesty finish.Anne Krebiehl1st December 2024

Egon Muller

King of the Mosel Valley

Broadly considered to make some of the greatest Rieslings in the world, the Egon Müller winery has been in the same family since 1797. Farming on the steep slopes of the Mosel valley, the estate owns around one third of the famous Scharzofberg vineyard, one of the region's greatest. That parcel includes three hectares of ungrafted vines - a rarity in any European grape growing region.

Extreme care is taken in the vineyard and all grapes are hand harvested. Fruit is pressed without any skin contact to preserve freshness and fermentation takes place in large, one thousand litre casks in cool cellars beneath the valley where they rest for around six months before bottling. The dry wines are clean and fresh with an unmistakable elegance while the sweeter wines (Spatlese, Auslese and TBA) offer a richness and depth of flavour that make them some of the greatest in Germany.
