The history of Maison Vincent Girardin is relatively recent; when in 1980, at the age of 19, Vincent Girardin, the son of a family of winegrowers based in Santenay since the 17th Century, decided to strike out on his own. Girardin began producing wine from two hectares of vines that he had inherited from his parents. The quality of his wines was quickly recognized by connoisseurs all over the world, and this enabled him to expand his activity, focusing primarily on the great white and red wines of the Côte de Beaune. The 2003 is a rich and spicy Pinot Noir with smoky, leathery complexity. A superb Grand Cru expression with bottle aged complexity.

Bright ruby-red. Wild berries, plum and smoked meat on the nose. Sweet, supple and gamey, but given shape and verve by juicy acidity. Nicely dense wine whose finish shows a dryness that probably comes from the recent sulfur addition.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2005
