Echezeaux Domaine Dujac 2009 is a Grand Cru Burgundy from the Côte de Nuits region of France, presented in magnum format. This vintage added a layer of perfumed richness to Dujac’s characteristic elegance, resulting in a wine of exceptional charm and structure. The nose is intensely floral, spicy and earthy, offering a densely fruited mix of black cherry and cassis. The big-bodied flavours are exceptionally cool and fresh, yet the tannins are fully mature, supporting and shaping the restrained, minerally and impressively persistent finish. It stands as a benchmark for the balance of power and finesse in the Echezeaux appellation.
91 Vinous
(a moderate 12.6% alcohol): Good full red. Aromas of plum, redcurrant, strawberry and earth. Sweet and pliant in the mouth, but can't match the Malconsorts for mouthfeel or depth. Nicely spicy but I wanted a bit more precision. Finishes with dusty tannins. This smaller-scaled Echezeaux doesn't not quite capitalize on the potential richness of the year.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2012

A Focus on Terroir

Founded in the late 1960s by Jacques Seysses, who purchased and renovated Domaine Graillet in Morey-St-Denis. The estate is currently run by Jacques' sons Jeremy and Alec, who farm around 17 hectares of vines across the Côte including holdings in Echezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and Bonnes Mares.

A natural approach is taken in the vineyard and cellar with the estate moving from organic farming to fully biodynamic in the mid 2000s, receiving their certification in 2011. The team's focus is on elegance - temperatures are controlled to keep alcohol in check and also limit malolactic fermentation while juice from the crush is fed into the cellar by gravity only without the use of pumping. The wines of Domaine Dujac represent pure, balanced expressions of their respective terroirs.
