Echézeaux Domaine Dujac 2009 is a Grand Cru red wine from Vosne-Romanée, drawn from several parcels spanning the appellation’s varied soils. The domaine’s hallmark use of whole clusters brings aromatic lift and fine-grained structure to the ripe 2009 fruit. Scents of raspberry, rose petal and clove mingle with hints of undergrowth and smoke. The palate is supple and expansive, supported by elegant tannins that frame the fruit without weight. Acidity provides clarity and direction, carrying the wine to a long, spice-tinged finish that reflects both the warmth of the year and Dujac’s refined, expressive style.

(a moderate 12.6% alcohol): Good full red. Aromas of plum, redcurrant, strawberry and earth. Sweet and pliant in the mouth, but can't match the Malconsorts for mouthfeel or depth. Nicely spicy but I wanted a bit more precision. Finishes with dusty tannins. This smaller-scaled Echezeaux doesn't not quite capitalize on the potential richness of the year.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2012

Mid crimson. Sweet and juicy on the nose. Very confident and racy and it has great class. Racy. Great freshness. Just a little drying on the end but should make great old bones. (JR)

A Focus on Terroir

Founded in the late 1960s by Jacques Seysses, who purchased and renovated Domaine Graillet in Morey-St-Denis. The estate is currently run by Jacques' sons Jeremy and Alec, who farm around 17 hectares of vines across the Côte including holdings in Echezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and Bonnes Mares.

A natural approach is taken in the vineyard and cellar with the estate moving from organic farming to fully biodynamic in the mid 2000s, receiving their certification in 2011. The team's focus is on elegance - temperatures are controlled to keep alcohol in check and also limit malolactic fermentation while juice from the crush is fed into the cellar by gravity only without the use of pumping. The wines of Domaine Dujac represent pure, balanced expressions of their respective terroirs.
