This is a classically styled Bordeaux red from illustrious Margaux 2ème Grand Cru Classé estate, Château Durfort Vivens. Made from a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, it is medium-bodied and fresh, with nice concentration of fruit and delicate structure.
88 Vinous
Bright red-ruby. Slightly peppery aromas of sour cherry, tobacco, menthol and herbs. Juicy, penetrating and rather light in body, with sound acidity and good floral and herbal cut giving life to the middle palate. A bit green and dry, but this nicely delineated claret should drink well over the next 10 to 15 years.Stephen Tanzer1st July 2012

Chateau Durfort-Vivens

2ème Grand Cru Classé

Somewhat under the radar, this superb 2ème Grand Cru Classé estate produces wonderful Left Bank Bordeaux reds from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, grown on gravel soils.

Owned by the high-profile Lurton family since 1961, Château Durfort-Vivens has been certified biodynamic since 2016. The resultant wines are beautifully structured Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wines that are built for aging. There is an emphasis on low-intervention winemaking, whilst 45% oak is used for the first wine and 20% for the second ‘Vivens’. A beautiful expression of the Margaux appellation.
