A classically wrought Margaux from 2ème Grand Cru Classé estate, Château Durfort Vivens. Red and black fruits with dark chocolate and liquorice nuances. The perfect match for lamb, veal and beef dishes.

The 2008 Durfort-Vivens has an attractive cedar-scented nose with touches of melted tar. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity. However, overall, it comes across as a little one-dimensional and monotonous. It's a little austere on the finish. I hoped it would improve in my glass, yet it instead seems to fade and is disappointing overall. Tasted at the Durfort-Vivens dinner at Portland restaurant.Neal Martin1st August 2023

Chateau Durfort-Vivens

2ème Grand Cru Classé

Somewhat under the radar, this superb 2ème Grand Cru Classé estate produces wonderful Left Bank Bordeaux reds from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, grown on gravel soils.

Owned by the high-profile Lurton family since 1961, Château Durfort-Vivens has been certified biodynamic since 2016. The resultant wines are beautifully structured Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wines that are built for aging. There is an emphasis on low-intervention winemaking, whilst 45% oak is used for the first wine and 20% for the second ‘Vivens’. A beautiful expression of the Margaux appellation.
