Château Du Tertre 2008 is a fifth-growth red wine from the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux. The 2008 vintage was a classic year where the harvest occurred late in the season to ensure the Cabernet Sauvignon reached full maturity. This wine has a high proportion of Cabernet Franc which adds a floral and herbal lift to the black fruit and cedar notes. It is a light to medium-bodied Margaux with fine tannins and a fresh acidity that makes it very food-friendly and ready to drink now.

The 2008 du Tertre was a small crop of 28hl/ha, a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. This has been an inconsistent performer over the years with some bottles showing some greenness, although this example was better with light blackberry and cedar aromas at first, a hint of black olive and a light marine scent that gradually develops. I would just like a little more intensity here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well judged acidity, touches of mulberry, spice box and clove with a slightly short finish that nevertheless, offers good substance. This has aged nicely over the last decade and is probably perfect to drink now and over the next few years. Toasty, mildly cocoa nose. Very pretty texture – not forced. Reminds of du Tertre`s style. Neat. Complete, but a bit forward. Very slightly rasping tannins on the finish. (JR)
