Dominus is a Napa Bordeaux blend from the Dominus Estate in Yountville, California. Dominus was established by Christian Mouiex of Chateau Petrus in 1981, sourcing fruit from the dryfarmed Napanook vineyard - a site famous for producing some of the best Napa wines of the 1940s and 1950s.Dominus is also the name of the flagship wine of the estate, a seamlessly elegant blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. "Bright, dark red with ruby highlights. Superripe but highly complex nose exudes scents of blueberry, violet, minerals, liquorice, game and cocoa powder. Plush and seamless on the palate, conveying a wonderfully silky mouth feel to the dark fruit, coffee and liquorice flavours; less animal in character than some other very ripe vintages of Dominus. This wonderfully suave, sweet, youthful wine finishes with slowly mounting, very fine-grained tannins and considerable class." Vinous, 2015

A First Growth in Napa
Along with Opus One, Dominus is one of the greatest examples of applying the Bordelais approach to winemaking to the great vineyards of the Napa Valley. Grapes are sourced from Yountville, specifically the historic Napanook vineyard, from which the winery's second wine takes its name.
The 'Grand Vin' is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot - a classic Bordeaux blend. After vinification, around 30% of the wine is loaded into new oak barrels for 15 months before bottling. Initial releases of Dominus met with mixed reviews, but since the late 1990s, the winery has established itself as one of the greatest in America.
