This stunning white wine is made from the uniquely Ribera variety, Albillo. Sourced from a century-old, organically farmed vineyard sitting at 800m elevation, all fruit is hand-harvested, foot-trodden and whole-bunch fermented with indigenous yeasts. It is then matured on lees for 30-35 months in French oak barrels. Incredibly intense and tensile in youth, it offers up vibrant notes of citrus and orchard fruits, with incisive acidity and a distinctively smoky-saline minerality. This is an incredibly high-quality wine well worth trying if you are a fan of the more reductive/smoky styles of white Burgundy or Chardonnay.

Forward-Looking Ribera
In contrast with the high-alcohol, super-concentrated wines with which Ribera is typically associated, Aguila prizes elegance and restraint in its wines – all made made from carefully selected old-vine plots of Tempranillo, Blanca del País, Bobal, Garnacha, Albillo and Tempranillo Gris. All are farmed organically or biodynamically.
The domaine’s reserva, made from a plot of vines more than 100 years old and aged for 35 months in old French oak, is a masterpiece in concentration with restraint. Also look out for the clarete – an extraordinary barrel-aged rosé-coloured wine made with co-fermented white and red grapes. This traditional style of wine in northern Spain had been largely forgotten in Ribera del Duero until Jorge campaigned to have it recognised in the appellation.
