Domaine de Chevalier 2019 is a Grand Cru Classé de Graves red Bordeaux from the Pessac-Léognan appellation, presented in double magnum. This estate is unique in Graves for its forest-sheltered microclimate and its commitment to producing wines of immense finesse and longevity. The 2019 vintage was exceptionally successful, providing a profile of cool blackcurrant fruit, graphite, tobacco leaf and cedar. The double magnum format has ensured a slow, harmonious development, preserving the wine’s vibrant acidity and silky tannins. It possesses a medium-bodied, elegant frame that prioritises aromatic precision over raw power.

The 2019 Domaine de Chevalier has a precise and complex bouquet with blackberry, cedar and tobacco scents, quite Médoc-like in style. This is thoroughly engaging. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, exquisitely integrated oak, fleshy and fine-boned with a precise finish. This is outstanding. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. The Domaine de Chevalier 2019 has a deep garnet-purple color. It sashays out with gorgeous notions of stewed plums, warm cassis, and kirsch, followed by touches of potpourri, cedar, and fragrant earth. The medium-bodied palate delivers firm, fine-grained tannins and a racy backbone to frame the intense, bright, youthful fruit, finishing long and perfumed.Lisa Perrotti-Brown1st May 2023
