Alongside Zind-Humbrecht, Trimbach are one of the most famous names in Alsace. Established in the early 17th century & located in the heart of Ribeauville.

Frederic Emile is a blend of two different Grand Cru sites with a similar clay, limestone & sandstone terroir - Geisberg & Osterberg. Clean, dry & complex when vinified dry, the wine takes on a seductive perfume of stone fruits & white flowers in years when conditions are appropriate for the production of a "Vendages Tardives" version.

(13.8% alcohol; 7.5 g/l total acidity; 3.09 pH; 3 g/l residual sugar): Pale straw-green. Delicate notes of cinnamon, sage and lemongrass on the enticing nose. Rich, dense and structured, with spicy white fruit, quince, fresh herbs and minty nuances on the structured palate. Finishes fresh and long, with a surprising amount of flesh, not surprising perhaps in a vintage that yielded some very heavy wines at other famous estates. Unlike many other wines made in this hot, dry growing season with a late harvest and little or no botrytis), this Frédéric Emile struck me as excellent and rather fresh.Ian d'Agata1st September 2013

Current vintage. Broad, round and really quite evolved. Relatively low acidity. Not quite racy enough for my taste. Really broad. A tad disappointing. (JR)Jancis Robinson13th June 2016
