The 2009 Hermitage Cuvée Cathelin from Jean-Louis Chave represents a concentrated expression of the terroir. Crafted from select parcels within the renowned Les Bessards vineyard, this wine showcases pronounced notes of smoky oak, graphite and damp earth, alongside a subtle depth of dark fruit. The integration of minerality is evident, providing structure to the wine’s richness. With ageing potential of several decades, this cuvée reflects the Chave family`s longstanding heritage in Hermitage winemaking, dating back to the late 1400s.

Vinous
Deep ruby. A heady, captivating bouquet evokes fresh red berries, candied flowers, blood orange, Asian spices and minerals, with subtle smoke and cracked pepper notes in the background. Deep in red and dark fruit flavor but light on its feet, showing penetrating, mineral-driven character and an array of floral and spice qualities. The endless finish strongly repeats the floral and mineral notes and shows amazing vivacity and clarity. Chave told me that he was 90% or 95% sure that this cuvee would be bottled as Cathelin.Josh Raynolds1st March 2012
