Craggy Range Le Sol 2007 is a full-bodied Syrah red wine from the Gimblett Gravels sub-region of Hawke`s Bay, New Zealand. Founded in 1997, Craggy Range sets the benchmark for terroir-driven New Zealand wines. This example from the greywacke stone-based soils of Gimblett Gravels – an increasingly prized red wine-producing vineyard area 12 miles inland from the Pacific coast – was fermented with 100% destemmed fruit and aged for 20 months in 42% new French oak barriques. "The 2007 Le Sol Syrah is very intense, almost introverted on the nose, closed compared to the Block 14 but the palate is full-bodied with immense chewy tannins, real weight and concentration but good acidity. Huge grip, pure black cherry, cassis and plum but velvety and caressing on the finish. Iron first/velvet glove etc. Unreal." Neal Martin, 2009
