Domaine Gerin is situated in the Côte Rôtie at the northernmost point of the Rhône Valley. The estate`s primary focus revolves around a collection of Syrah wines sourced from vineyards in Côte Rôtie and Saint-Joseph, along with Viognier wines from additional vineyard parcels in Condrieu. Jean-Michel Gerin`s journey began in 1983 when he acquired his first holding in Côte Rôtie. Just four years later, he introduced his inaugural vintage, closely followed by his first single-vineyard creation, ‘Les Grandes Places’, in 1988. The 2000 vintage stands out for its captivating aroma profile, featuring elements of smoked meats, violets, and char. On the palate, it presents a notably high-toned character with crisp acidity and tangy tannins, but beneath the surface, it reveals an exquisite array of flavours, including smoked game, char, violet spices, and mineral notes of graphite.

(all new barriques) Good medium ruby. Deep, sauvage aromas of black raspberry, violet, gunflint and smoked meat; real essence of Cote-Rotie. Rich, lush, smooth and satisfying; quite full in the mouth, with a suggestion of roasted meats. Finishes with substantial tannins and excellent length. More firmly structured than the Landonne, for drinking later.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2003

The 2000 Cote Rotie Les Grandes Places reveals more graphite, creme de cassis, blackberry, and earthy aromas. With airing, scents of Asian spices and new saddle leather also emerge. Medium-bodied, structured, tannic, and closed but promising, this 2000 will be at its peak between 2007-2015.
The president of the syndicate of Cote Rotie growers, the young, dynamic, and talented Jean-Michel Gerin continues to build a strong following for his progressive, modern-styled, barrique-aged Cote Roties. Gerin’s 2000 Cote Roties are extremely successful (he eliminated 60% of the crop through severe pruning and grape cutting in the vineyard). Like all his wines, they were bottled unfined and unfiltered.
