E Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Landonne 2008 is a full-bodied single vineyard red wine produced from Syrah grapes in the northern Rhône Valley of France. Founded in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for quality Côte-Rôtie. The top three wines from Guigal are known affectionately in some circles as the `La La`s`, which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. La Landonne made its debut in 1978 and is produced from 2 hectares of Syrah on the Côte Brune, vinified in stainless steel and aged in 100% new French oak for up to 42 months. " Shows very impressive depth and concentration for the vintage, delivering brooding espresso, baker`s chocolate, charcoal and singed iron notes intertwined with roasted fig and steeped plum fruit. A smouldering bay leaf edge lingers on the very grippy finish. A superb effort in a difficult year. Best from 2013 through 2027." Wine Spectator, 2012

Saturated ruby. An impressively complex nose evokes blackberry, dark chocolate, violet and cigar tobacco, with a strong spicy note emerging with air. Offers sweet, deeply pitched dark fruit compote and floral pastille flavors that are given spine by juicy acidity. No way I'd guess from this wine's concentration that it was an '08. Finishes with superb persistence, lively notes of violets and black pepper and slow-building tannins. A really remarkable performance for the year.Josh Raynolds1st March 2013

Benchmark for Côte-Rôtie excellence

Founded in the village of Ampuis by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for Côte-Rôtie Syrah. A pioneer of the single-vineyard concept in this appellation Guigal is best known for its top three wines, known affectionately as the 'La-Las', which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque – the domaine's top Syrah vineyards .

Other notable vineyards of this 75-hectare estate include La Doriane (the source of Guigal's Condrieu), Ex-Voto (used for Hermitage) and Vignes de l'Hospice (the source of one of Guigal's top St-Joseph Syrahs). All of these have become benchmark wines of their respective appellations. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation completes the roster of Northern Rhône estate vineyards.

Since 2006, Guigal has made a substantial investment in appellations of the Southern Rhône, using top-quality purchased fruit from trusted growers in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and the Côtes du Rhône.
