The 2009 Côte-Rôtie from Bernard Burgaud showcases a concentrated expression of Syrah, crafted from meticulously tended vineyards located in diverse lieu-dits, including Côte Blonde and Leyat. Known for his traditional single-cuvée philosophy, Burgaud exclusively produces this Côte-Rôtie, with a relatively small total of 4.5 hectares. The 2009 vintage benefitted from optimal weather conditions, yielding ripe grapes. Typical characteristics include deep garnet hue, complex aromas of dark fruit, black olives and subtle smokiness, complemented by robust tannins and lively acidity, offering substantial ageing potential.

Vinous
Dark ruby. Black and blue fruits on the powerful, smoky nose. Lush and seamless on the palate, offering juicy blackberry and cherry flavors complicated by notes of candied flowers and licorice. Soft tannins add shape to the finish, which is broad, sweet and impressively long. This wine is surprisingly approachable now but has good aging potential. Burgaud predicts that it will be at its best around 2016.Josh Raynolds1st March 2012
