Méo-Camuzet Corton Les Perrières 2009 is a full-bodied red wine from the Grand Cru climat of Corton in the Côte de Beaune. Based in Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet produces some of the most coveted wines from the Côte d`Or. Founder Étienne Camuzet was both a vigneron as well as a dedicated politician who spent most of his time in Paris. Today, Méo-Camuzet covers approximately 14 hectares of vines in very prestigious appellations in Burgundy. Since 1989, the estate has been overseen by Jean-Nicolas Méo, who also looks after Nicolas-Jay estate in Oregon. "A perfumed and unusually cool nose in the context of the vintage is both elegance and complex red berry fruit-liqueur aromas that are liberally cut with wet stone and soft earth notes. There is good delineation to the middle weight flavours that possess firm tannins and plenty of punch as the palate impression of the dusty and mineral-inflected finish is linear and moderately austere. Despite the austerity, this is really quite classy. Note that I have shortened my estimated initial drinking window by a few years though be aware that this will still require at least 10 to 12 years to arrive at its peak." Burghound, 2013

The 2009 Corton-Les Perrieres is a rich, intense wine bursting with dark fruit. Some of the gravitas seems to have been achieved with a slight loss of verve. There is a slightly overripe quality to the fruit that sets the Perrieres apart from some of the other wines in the lineup. Meo says the vines were a bit stressed, even though the parcel was harvested earlier than some of the others. The Perrieres needed two additional days of fermentation to work through the sugars. Anticipated maturity. 2019-2034.

(this parcel of old vines was also purchased at the end of 2008) Good deep red. Ripe, wild aromas of raspberry, smoke and game; very Corton. Then sweeter and richer in the mouth, with more texture and sheer size. Really reverberates on the long, building finish.
