Domaine de la Romanée-Conti – often abbreviated as DRC – is one of the most prestigious and highly regarded wine estates in Burgundy. Located in the village of Vosne-Romanée, DRC is known for producing some of the finest and most sought-after wines in the world, primarily from Pinot Noir. The estate encompasses several Grand Cru vineyards, including the eponymous Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg, Romanée-St-Vivant and Corton, where this release comes from. The 2011 vintage was marked by a rather challenging growing season, with cool temperatures and some issues with rain. However, the skilled winemakers at DRC managed to produce a beautiful wine with good structure and balance.

It is interesting to return to one of the first vintages of the Corton Grand Cru that was added to the roster two vintages earlier. It has a supremely well-defined bouquet with slightly leafy red berry fruit laced with fennel. The palate is medium-bodied with admirable depth, classically styled with a harmonious, vibrant finish. This is an impressive showing, and based on this bottle, it has 12 to 15 years of life ahead. Tasted and The Fine Wine Experience's La Paulée dinner at 1243 Club in Beaune. Neal Martin25th June 2024
