Corton Grand Cru
Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France
Situated within a cluster of celebrated wine-growing villages – Ladoix-Serrigny, Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and Savigny-lès-Beaune – the hill of Corton is one of the most emblematic vineyard sites of the Côte de Beaune. The site is unique in featuring the only Grand Cru for red wines in the Côte de Beaune region. The Pinot Noirs produced here are famously long-lived, even if they do require several years to shed their youthful austerity. A very small amount of Chardonnay can also be produced as Corton Grand Cru (NB: these are distinct from the illustrious whites of Corton-Charlemagne, which is a separate Grand Cru focused on plots on the western side of the hill).
