Domaine de la Vougeraie is the largest organic and biodynamic producer in the Côte d`Or, with organically-farmed wines from the villages through Grand Cru vineyards. This 2016 Corton Clos du Roi delivers aromas of red berries, cherries, sweet spices and floral notes. The same fruity aromas are found on the palate, with a silky substance and remarkable length.

The 2016 Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru has a rather facile, pastille-scented bouquet that misses the complexity of its peers. The palate is balanced and clean, but lacks complexity and minerality. Pleasurable but does not engage the intellect. There seems to be some whole bunch fruit here, but it does not quite gel together as well as other examples. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. Top Flight Biodynamic Burgundy

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
