Grand Cru since 1937, this wine was already famous in the 15th century, a time when the King of France personally stocked his own cellars with Corton. Belonging to the Dukes of Burgundy, upon the death of Charles the Bold, the last Duke of Burgundy, in 1477, this parcel became part of the royal domain and was named Corton "Clos du Roi." Perfectly situated on the east-facing slope of the Corton hill, the vines are traditionally tended to by the Domaine Louis Latour`s winemakers. Rigorous pruning allows for later harvesting, ensuring an excellent level of grape ripeness. The 2009 vintage marked a remarkable year for French wine production, delivering outstanding quality across various regions, including Burgundy, Champagne, the Rhône, the Loire, and Alsace.

Pale crimson. Discreet nose. Lots of ripe fruit on the front palate but too raw to express much at the moment. Lots of fine tannins. Wait for this to reveal itself. (JR)Jancis Robinson7th January 2011
