Domaine Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne 2000 is a Burgundy white wine from the Grand Cru of Corton-Charlemagne on the hill of Corton in the Côte de Beaune. Fifth-generation winemaker Jean Boillot is one of the most exciting emerging talents in Burgundy, a winemaker whose diligent work in the vineyards (both his family`s and those he manages for negociant label) and the cellar yields wines of extraordinary purity, depth and terroir transparency. " A now fully mature and highly complex nose of green apple, wet stone and hints of dried white orchard fruit aromas leads to mineral-driven, intense and beautifully energetic flavours that culminate in a penetrating and delineated finish that delivers very fine length. As it was early on, this remains a powerful wine with plenty of personality. For my taste this is drinking perfectly now and it should continue to do so if well-stored." Burghound, 2013

(from vines facing full south) Intensely spicy nose of powdered stone, clove and nutmeg. Opulent and compellingly rich, with a powerful stoniness (wet stone and powdered) leavening the wine extraordinary sucrosity. A thick, consistent, very long wine that dusts the palate with stone. But the young 2001 is even fatter and richer.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2002

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
